Welcome Wildlife Action Map Users!
Thank you for your interest in Pennsylvania’s at-risk fish and wildlife. We hope this site supports and inspires your conservation efforts.
Unquestionably, spatial and data management technologies continue to develop at an increasing pace, with growing opportunities to enhance management decision capabilities of resource managers and the public. Building on these expanding technologies, in June 2014, a small group of statewide partners representing state and federal agencies, and the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program, participated in a structured decision-making workshop hosted by the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV. Results from this workshop were foundational for developing the web-enabled Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan (PA WAP) Conservation Opportunity Area (COA) Tool, launched in August 2019 to support proactive conservation planning and implementation.
While the COA Tool was a significant advancement, there remained an ongoing need to gather information on PA WAP implementation. To address this data gap, we developed the Conservation Action Tracker (CAT), allowing users to voluntarily enter project information based on targeted SGCN or habitats. We anticipate in the years ahead, this tool will provide an important portal for catalyzing collaborations and furthering SGCN conservation.
Collectively, the COA Tool (planning) and CAT (implementation) comprise the Wildlife Action Map (WAM). The content and functionality could not have been possible without the dedication of many contributors. Numerous Pennsylvania Game Commission and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission staff and enduring partners greatly advanced the versatility and functionality of these tools. Throughout development of these tools, we endeavored to maintain a comprehensive list of contributors and graciously acknowledge individuals and funding sources below. Kindly notify us of omissions.
We hope these tools are helpful resources in your efforts to secure Pennsylvania’s fish and wildlife, and their habitats for current and future generations. Thank you!
